MAPS 2014 Opening Day

Connecticut Warbler

Connecticut Warbler

Southern Appalachian Raptor Research started the summer MAPS sampling season at Tessentee Farm Preserve in Macon County, NC yesterday. Twenty-two birds were trapped, banded and released including 9 birds banded during the previous 4 seasons of sampling effort at Tessentee. Highlights included eye-to eye views of neo-tropical Indigo Bunting, Yellow-breasted Chat, and Hooded Warbler. Of particular interest was a close encounter with the furtive Connecticut Warbler, which utilizes the Little Tennesee River valley habitat at Tessentee on its migration to northern breeding areas.
