Ruby-crowned Kinglet
A reign of kinglets has been providing some late season excitement at the banding station this October! Kinglet numbers are over double last year’s totals, boosting our October passerines banded to over 600 individuals. Over 200 Ruby-crowned Kinglets and 25 Golden-crowned Kinglets have been encountered this season! The smallest birds banded at BBBS, Kinglets winter in the southern US and Central America. They are insectivorous, feeding upon small, soft-bodied insects gleaned from leaves.
