2013 Big Bald Bird Migration Project Begins!

August 28 was the official opening day of the 2013 Big Bald Bird Migration Project. Seven birds of seven species were banded: Cape May Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, American Redstart, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Veery, and Cedar Waxwing. Numbers have gradually picked up over the week with a total of 40 birds today. The most numerous species this week was Black-throated Blue Warbler. Tennessee Warbler numbers started out low but are increasing (18 yesterday). Highlight species include Northern Waterthrush, Yellow-throated Vireo, and Nashville Warbler.
